How
did I get here.
And where am I going.
I
graduated from the Bachelor of Commerce program from Ryerson Polytechnic
University in Toronto. I learned all about business but I majored
in computers and minored in communications. I wanted to prove that
not all computer people were geeks and we can communicate too.
I
lucked out and found a great job right out of school (thanks Matt!).
I gained experience designing internal web applications and providing
first level support for SHL Systemhouse. The company merged and
changed several times since I was there and eventually our team
was cut when Worldcom was sold to EDS.
I
decided to freelance for a while before settling into another fulltime
web developer job. CANNEX Financial Exchanges was a small company
and I designed and branded the website, internal applications and
all the print work. It was a lot of fun and we were like a small
family. And then in 2005, I decided I had enough of the blistering
Canadian winters and packed up my dog and my car and drove to Los
Angeles.
I
had fun living in Hollywood for the first couple months but then
settled in the San Fernando Valley working for Answer Financial.
I designed and built all the web applications and electronic newsletters.
I worked closely with the back-end developers and QA testers. I
had my share of fun in California but I decided I wanted to live
in a more affordable economy.
I
moved to Dallas in 2007. I found a couple jobs I liked but I couldn't
resist the creative and fun atmosphere of working with The CW33
KDAF-TV. My spacious office was equipped with a television, a MAC
and a PC. The sky was the limit. In my four years at the TV station,
I rebranded the website several times and took the company ahead
of the competition in sales revenue, pagesviews, promotions, news
stories, social media, database creations and many other business
strategies.
In
June 2011, I decided to take my career in a different direction.
I chose to leave the TV station and find a renewed happiness in
my career. What's next?
